Melanotan I is a synthetic α-melanocyte stimulating hormone analog with an FDA-approved implant form (SCENESSE®) for rare photosensitivity disorders. Research-grade injectable forms are studied for melanin production and photoprotective effects, with human safety data from 147 subjects showing minimal adverse events primarily consisting of transient nausea and flushing.
