What it's actually good for

Longevity

Mixed Evidence

Reliably raises NAD+ but direct evidence for lifespan extension in humans is currently absent.

Energy

Research Supported

Users frequently report improved subjective energy and reduced fatigue, likely due to mitochondrial support.

Recovery

Weak Evidence

Some evidence suggests reduced markers of inflammation, but direct athletic recovery data is limited.

How it works

Nicotinamide Riboside is a potent NAD+ precursor that reliably increases cellular NAD+ levels in humans. While it shows significant promise for cardiovascular health and inflammatory markers, evidence for lifespan extension or metabolic improvement in healthy humans remains mixed and largely preliminary.

NR is converted into NAD+ via the NRK pathway, bypassing the rate-limiting NAMPT enzyme. Increased NAD+ availability supports sirtuin activity and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation.

Safety

  • Generally well-tolerated with no serious adverse effects reported in trials up to 2000mg/day.
  • Mild side effects may include nausea, fatigue, or headaches.
  • Long-term safety beyond 1-2 years of continuous use is not yet established in humans.
